Great explanation! One thing I'd add for anyone just getting into these flowers: once you decide which one you want, don't buy bulbs at retail prices. The markup onwholesale flower bulbs is massive compared to what garden centers charge — you can buy single bags at wholesale pricing with no minimum order these days. I planted 40 daffodils this year for what 10 would've cost at the local shop.
