I'm planning to get the transmission fluid changed on my A6 soon, and I've been reading about the different methods that garages use to do the job. Some places use a flushing machine that pushes new fluid through the system and supposedly removes more of the old fluid and contaminants, while others just do a simple drain and refill which is cheaper but might leave some old fluid behind. I've heard conflicting advice on which method is better, with some people saying that flushing a high-mileage transmission can actually cause problems by dislodging debris that then gets stuck in the valve body, while others argue that a flush is the only way to properly renew the fluid. I found a really helpful resource on Accomplished Audi Oil Change Guide that discussed the pros and cons of both methods and recommended that for older transmissions with high mileage, a simple drain and refill might be safer than a full flush. The guide also pointed out that on some Audi models, the fluid can only be drained by removing the pan, so there's no real way to do a full flush anyway.
